Nigeria under attack

    'I risked my life'
    Escape from terror
    Military divisions
    Terror badge of honour?

Mystery surrounds the fate of more than 100 teenage girls who were abducted from a school in the remote north-east of Nigeria.

The military says all but eight of the 129 girls have escaped, but parents of the girls say many are still missing.

It is thought Islamist militant group Boko Haram took the girls to forested areas near the Cameroonian border.

The group is waging a bloody campaign for an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.
Also on Wednesday, 18 people were killed in an attack in the Gwoza district of north-eastern Nigeria, local officials told the AP news agency.
Soldiers 'overpowered'

The BBC's correspondent in Lagos, Will Ross, says the Nigerian military's statement that most of the girls had escaped their captors contrasts sharply with other information available to the BBC, including the claims of parents of pupils at the school. They insist "many" of their children are still missing.

The raid on the boarding school is a great source of embarrassment for the Nigerian authorities who say their military campaign against the militants is succeeding, he adds.

In a swift reaction to the Monday morning, 14th April, 2014 blast at a motor park in Nyanya, a suburb of about 30 kilometres from the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc has visited the scene of the explosion where he assessed the extent of damage and the impact on the surrounding environment. He urged the citizens and the international community to remain calm and vigilant as the Police and other security agencies are stepping up measures to uncover the authors
of the crime and avoid a reoccurrence of this unfortunate incident.

The IGP further noted that security agents have relentlessly worked round the clock with significant success to stave off such attacks on the Federal Capital and the entire country at large and therefore reassured Nigerians and foreign nationals that security agencies will do anything possible to further strengthen the security within and beyond Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Consequently, the IGP has placed Police operatives on red alert. He has equally ordered the Police to intensify surveillance on all vulnerable targets within Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Police, supported by other law enforcement agencies, have commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident with the deployment of the Police Anti-Bomb Squad and other detectives to the scene with the view to solving the crime.

While commiserating with the families of the victims of the blasts, the IGP called on the members of the public to go about their normal businesses without fear and to cooperate with the Police by providing useful information in order to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to book.

Boko Haram terrorists beg soldiers for mercy
The Defence Headquarters yesterday said scores of wounded terrorists captured by soldiers
in the ongoing military operations against insurgency in the north east have been pleading with soldiers to spare their lives.

The terrorists according to the Director, Defence Information(DDI), Major-General Chris Olukolade, were captured from their various camps in the fringes of Lake Chad by the Multi-National Joint Task Force and other locations around Dikwa, Cross Kauwa, Kukawa and Alargarmo.

He said, the captured terrorists, some of whom are fatally wounded, were already making useful statements regarding the locations of their remnant forces and that “they are full of apologies and pleas for their lives to be spared promising to cooperate”.

“In their confessions, it was revealed that some of the camps have been disbanded following the directive of their clerics, who declared that the operation of the sect had come to an end as the mission could no longer be sustained. The terrorists who are giving useful information as to the locations of their remnant forces, are full of apologies and pleas for their lives to be spared promising to cooperate.

“They confirmed that starvation was a major problem in addition to ceaseless bombardments on the camp locations even when they kept relocating.

Boko Haram Calls Nigerian Police "Women" In War Song, Says Churches, Christians And Nigerian State Remain Main Target

The Jamaʻat Ahl as-Sunnah
lid-daʻwa wal-Jihād popularly known as Boko Haram has called Nigerian Police ‘women’ in a song it produced in showing how they attacked Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri on 14th March, 2014.
The 23 minute and 54 seconds video produced by the sect confirmed their sophistication and modern weapons in their arsenal.
The video showed the sect exhibiting their warfare techniques, shooting targets from specialized armed vans, holding and firing grenades from ground and physical coordination of men by their Commanders who in the clip were giving orders.
The footage which also contained how the sect launched attacks from several directions in and around the military barracks, clearly showed hundreds it claimed to have freed after being incarcerated by the Nigerian military.
Cautioning men of Nigerian Police to stay off their path, the sect sang, “Police give us way, you are too weak and small to stop us, you are all women and we understand you.”
The sect in the song further sang that their demand for Shariah is uncompromising and their targets remained Churches, Christians and Nigerian state, singing, “We are working for Allah and must bring Shariah to existence; we are committed to protecting Muslims from being annihilated by infidels. We are going to kill them. We will enter Churches and slaughtered Christians and barracks. We are calling on all Muslims to come out and fight Jihad. If you joke, these infidels will annihilate Muslims.
The Nigerian military are yet to react to the clips since yesterday.

Four suspected Boko Haram members died today in Maiduguri

Four suspected Boko Haram members died today after the vehicles in which they each rode in exploded as they headed towards a NNPC facility on Maiduguri-Dambora road in Mule, an outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno State. Apparently they each had their vehicles laced with bombs that would detonate at the same time.

Spokesman for the Joint Information Centre for Counter Terrorism Campaign, Major General Chris Olukolade said that three out of the four explosive-laden vehicles were demobilized by shots fired at them by soldiers at the check point shortly before the explosions.

Reports say five soldiers were killed when the bombs exploded and the exact number of civilian casualties is yet to be ascertained.

The militants had sent fliers to the town earlier in the week, warning of an impending attack, a tactic used by the extremists elsewhere in the region, said Borno senator Ahmed Zanna.

Following the threat, some people fled, schools were closed and military reinforcements were deployed to the town roughly 45 kilometres (28 miles) northeast of Borno’s capital Maiduguri.

But when the attack began “the soldiers fled because they could not match the firepower and numerical strength of the gunmen,” Zanna told AFP.
