Liverpool rekindle interest in Man City’s Micah Richards
Liverpool will step up their interest in Manchester City defender Micah Richards this summer, according to reports.
Brendan Rodgers saw a loan offer for the right-back rejected during the January
transfer window, but is set to return at the end of the season with a permanent bid, claims the Daily Mail.
Richards, aged 25, has been at City since the age of 14, but has seen his first-team opportunities dwindle in recent seasons.
That culminated in him rejecting a new five-year contract to stay at the Etihad.
While City are keen to see one of the few homegrown player in their first-team squad remain at the club, particularly given Richards’ versatility to offer cover at right-back or centre-back, the one-time England international feels he needs to leave in order to fulfil his potential.
Richards has one year left on his current deal and are set to demand a fee of £8m to sign him this summer.
The Reds will hope that the prospect of losing him for nothing in 12 months will force City to sell him for less than that.
